August 2022 Meeting Minutes for Marine Corps League Swansboro Detachment #1407
1. Opening Ceremony:
Marine Corps League Swansboro Detachment #1407 was called to order at 1830 on 2 August,
2022 by Commandant Paul Miethker. The Posting of Colors and Pledge of Allegiance were
conducted by Sgt-at-Arms Joe Beam. There were fourteen (14) members and one (1) guest in
attendance. The meeting was held at the Swansboro Moose Lodge.
This was the first time that we leveraged “Taco Tuesday” at the Moose Lodge. It was quite
successful and will be continued. We thank the Swansboro Moose Lodge for its hospitality.

6. Minutes:
Minutes from the July Meeting were emailed on 6 July, 2022. There were no corrections. The
minutes were approved by a vote of those in attendance.
7. Correspondence: None.
8. Paymaster’s Report:
APPROVED PENDING AUDIT
A $150.00 check was sent to Wreaths Across America for 10 wreaths. This was a budgeted item.
9. Report of members or family members sick or in distress:
None.
10. Reports from Officers and Staff:
None..
11. Report of Standing Committees:
a) Scouts: Jr. Vice Pat Curley reports the Scouts will hold a Christmas Party and Toy Collection
on December 11, 2022. Pat will award Eagle Scout certificates on September 11, 2022.
b) Marine for Life: Mark Munger reported that M4L will provide a briefing at the National
Convention. They will focus on social media.
c) Swansboro Veterans Memorial: Adjutant/Paymaster Bob Shannon stated that the lease of two
acres from the Swansboro Baseball Leagues fell through. The Swansboro Veterans Memorial has
been promised two acres adjacent to the baseball fields acres pending the cleanup of some legal
issues.
12. Unfinished Business:
a) Birthday Ball: The Birthday Ball will be held at the Marston Pavilion, Camp Lejeune, on 5
November, 2022 at 1800. Tickets are $55.00. Marine Alex Nevgloski has tickets. Tickets will
also be sold at the Retiree Breakfast on August 13, 2022.
b) Veterans Day Parade: Detachment 1407 will participate in the Veterans Day Parade.
Volunteers are needed.
13. New Business:
a) Jr. Vice Commandant Pat Curley discussed Project Healing Waters which will provide fly
fishing training and opportunities to veterans. Contact Pat for details ([email protected]).
b) Sr. Past Commandant Steve Tracy mentioned that free fishing and hunting trips in Maine are
available for veterans. One can register or donate at https://www.houseinthewoods.org/.
c) Marine Tracy also reported that Gunny Claus will be up and running on November 1, 2022.
d) Sr. Past Commandant Steve Tracy discussed the plight of those in Kentucky who were
victimized by severe flooding. He proposed a donation $500.00. The membership voted
unanimously to approve the donation.
14) Awards:
We had a plethora of awards, one dating back to the previous administration, some for the
Pancake Breakfast, and some for participation at Military Appreciation Day at Hammock’s
Beach.
A. Jr. Past Commandant Mark Munger presented Jr. Vice Commandant Pat Curley with a Distinguished Service Award for his service as the 2021-2022 Jr. Vice Commandant.
B. Jr. Past Commandant Mark Munger presented Jr. Vice Commandant Pat Curley with a Certificate of Appreciation for his participation at the Pancake Breakfast held on March 26, 2022.
C. Jr. Past Commandant Mark Munger presented Marine Eric Ellenberger with a Certificate ofAppreciation for his participation at the Pancake Breakfast held on March 26, 2022.
D. Commandant Paul Meithker presented Certificates of Appreciation to Marine Don Bouchard. Sgt-at-Arms Joe Beam, Jr. Vice Commandant Pat Curley, Judge Advocate Frances Hayden, Sr. Past Commandant Steve Tracy, and Sr. Vice Commandant Tim Manchester for their participation at Military Appreciation Day, June 4, 2022, at Hammock’s Beach.
15. Announcements:

16: Closing: The meeting was closed by ritual at 1920. The 50/50 raffle of $57.00 was won
by Marine Bob Shannon who donated it back to the Detachment.
